Where to stay: Airbnb VS Hotel

Where to stay: Airbnb VS Hotel

Vacation home rentals have drastically grown in popularity over the last few years. With so many options out there, it is difficult to know whether to choose a hotel or Airbnb for your perfect vacation. Let’s take a closer look at each of them so you can feel better equipped to make the right choice!

Airbnb

Pros

  • Privacy
  • Space
  • Kitchen

Booking a private home ensures you and your travel companions are the only guests onsite. You won’t have to interact with hotel guests or staff. Often times these homes are much more spacious than the typical hotel room and even include a kitchen. If you are looking for a private getaway with all the amenities you enjoy at home, an Airbnb may be the right choice for you.

Cons

  • Quality
  • Cancellation Policy
  • Lack of Amenities

Booking an Airbnb can sometimes be a gamble. The quality of the home may not be exactly what was portrayed in the booking. It is important to read the reviews before selecting an Airbnb to ensure you are indeed getting what the listing shows. Cancellation policies for rentals on Airbnb tend to be a bit stricter than that of a hotel. Be sure to review the policy in depth before you commit to the reservation. Compared to a hotel, these homes often lack some of the amenities that a hotel has. There will be no continental breakfast, turndown service, onsite restaurant, or pool (unless you specifically book a location with an onsite pool.

Hotel

Pros

  • Amenities
  • Location
  • Cancellation Policy

Hotels were the primary way to stay for many years. They are typically located in more central locations with the ability to walk to many destinations at your destination. In addition to being in a prime location, depending on the style of hotel you choose, they can have a luxurious list of amenities. If you like indulging in spa services, having daily maid service, or the ability to order room service in the middle of the night, then a hotel might be a better option for your next trip. Another nice thing about booking at a hotel is they typically have lenient cancellation policies (check directly with the hotel you are booking for their cancellation policy).

Cons

  • Space
  • Lack of Privacy
  • No Kitchen

Hotels are built to accommodate as many travelers as they can. This leads to much smaller square footage for you and your travel companions. If a large space is what you are looking for in your next stay then a hotel may not be the best choice. Hotels are also filled with other guests and don’t provide ample amounts of privacy. If you are wanting a spacious place for your next trip that has privacy and may even include a kitchen, then a hotel may not be the appropriate choice for your group.
